KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 2, 2024: Employees associated with the Telangana Government Hospital Workers and Employees Union, Karimnagar chapter, have launched an indefinite strike at the government general hospital in Karimnagar town on Friday.
They demanded the management release three months’ pending salaries to the contract employees and alleged harassment of the medical fraternity against the contract employees. About 250 employees including sanitation workers, patient care, security guards and others participated in the strike.
Government hospital workers and employees union Karimnagar district honourary president Bandari Shekhar said that they were forced to go on strike following the negligence of their demands by the management despite several pleas and agitations during the last two months. Demanding the government to abolish the contract system, he demanded the management to provide pending three months salaries, EPF in their accounts, ESI facilities and ID cards to all employees.
He also alleged that the government hospital supervisors were harassing the contract employees by forcing them to work for more hours for attending late to their duties. If the contract employee is absent for one day, the management marks three days as absent and denies them their wages. AIYF district general secretary Yugender extended his solidarity to the indefinite strike. Union leaders P Arun, T Kalavathi, P Sharada, Sarala, Rekha, Satish, Sai, Arun, Divya, Jyothi, Anjali, Latha and others participated in the strike.
