KARIMNAGAR, DECEMBER 26, 2024: As if the terror of stray dogs was not enough, the fresh menace of pigs had become a cause of concern in the entire Karimnagar town in general and the Collectorate office premises in particular.
There are several incidents of dogs attacking the people visiting the Collectorate to submit petitions during the weekly prajavani programme and meet the officials concerned for redressal of grievances of various departments. Besides, the frequent visitors to the Registration office on the premises had also become worrisome for the people with the dog and pig menace.
Drove of pigs with piglets moving around the premises of the Collectorate and other parts of various colonies had become a cause of concern for the parents as the clash between dogs and pigs was terrorizing the children who are playing on the roads or returning from the schools and colleges.
Thanks to the visionless execution of the Smart City programme, the MCK authorities had converted the broad and wide roads into narrow roads in front of the Collectorate with unnecessary footpaths and parking spaces, which have become safe places for the traders to encroach the roads illegally and cause traffic congestion. Above all, the MCK authorities had even removed the existing cattle traps at the two gates of the Collectorate premises in Karimnagar allowing dogs, pigs, and cattle to enter the premises and convert them as their haven.
It is surprising to see that the pig-rearers have converted the Collectorate as safe place to rear the pigs and daily they dump the hotel waste and other food material to the pigs on the Collectorate premises. Even after several incidents of stray dogs attacking the people of the town, the MCK had remained a mute spectator and not taking measures to trap the stray dogs to take up sterilization.
On the other hand, the stray cattle menace is also a big menace in various parts of the town. The stray cattle occupy the already converted narrow roads and cause traffic snarls. But, the MCK authorities remain mute spectators.
HUM voluntary organisation founder Dhanapuri Sagar found fault with the MCK authorities for not taking any measures to check the ever-growing dog, pigs, stray cattle and monkey menace, which had become the order of the day. There are several incidents of street dogs and pigs attacking and mauling the infants and elders, but the MCK authorities conduct only review meetings for name-sake and forget the issue of the dogs and pigs menace which had become beyond tolerable limits in the town, he stated.
Every locality in our cities and towns is virtually under siege by packs of dogs whose ferocity and aggressiveness during night hours cause serious concern. They virulently chase and attack competing pack members, other animals, and people travelling in cycles and vehicles— in short— any moving object, he stated and added that the stray dogs and pig menace is growing due to unchecked fast-food and tiffin-centres in various parts of the town.
