KARIMNAGAR, FEBRUARY 20, 2024: Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the Government Degree College for women, Karimnagar town, has conducted a one-day workshop on Apiculture to reap riches and turn into entrepreneurs.
College principal T Sree Lakshmi inaugurated the workshop on Tuesday and lauded the potential of beekeeping and its diversification in employment generation and enhancing income of farm women and unemployed youth.
Women entrepreneur and founder of Sree Natural Honey Thallapelli Sanjana, who had emerged as a role model in beekeeping in the Karimnagar district, explained the technical information and practical know-how of beekeeping practices and relevant aspects for successful starting and carrying out scientific beekeeping as subsidiary or main occupation by the students.
She enlightened all aspects of beekeeping, including honey bee species, apiary site selection, bee hive and other apicultural equipment and machinery, bee flora, seasonal bee husbandry, management of swarming, management of pests and diseases, protecting bees against pesticidal poisoning, bee pollination of crops, colony multiplication and mass queen bee rearing, production of various other hive products namely pollen, propolis, royal jelly and bee venom, strategies and avenues for honey and bee products marketing etc were held.
She also empowered the girl students to turn into entrepreneurs by undergoing training at Bee Board and honey making as an entrepreneur by taking bank loans. She said that beekeeping requires less investments and reap more profits unlike other trades. She said that the government was encouraging the apicultural enterprise and supporting them by providing financial assistance. EDC coordinator T Lavanya, faculty members Swapna, Sudhama, Krishnaveni, Anusha, Sateesh, Raghupathi And others were also present.
