HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 30, 202: State Vigilance and Enforcement Director General and Ex-Officio Principal Secretary Shikha Goel emphasised that every individual must uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity not only in their professional life but also in their daily conduct only when systems can function effectively and transparent services be delivered to the public, she stated.
Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest at the Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations held at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, on Thursday, Shikha Goel said that vigilance should not be confined to just one week of observance but must become a continuous commitment throughout the year. She recalled that the values of truth and righteousness have been deeply ingrained in Indian culture and spiritual heritage for centuries, as reflected in the teachings of Indian epics.

She mentioned that honesty, integrity and transparency should not be seen as obstacles to efficiency. The misconception that ethical practices hinder progress must be eliminated, she said, urging everyone to approach every issue from a humanitarian perspective.
Citing examples, Shikha Goel said that Dr E. Sreedharan completed the Delhi Metro project on time and within budget through integrity and dedication, while Dr. Verghese Kurien brought about the White Revolution through transparency and ethical practices in the cooperative sector. She said that such individuals have earned the nation’s respect through their honesty and commitment.
She further added that being honest but inactive is also a form of negligence. With the effective use of technology, she said, it is possible to provide transparent and citizen-friendly services while minimizing opportunities for corruption. “Vigilance is not about treating everyone as a suspect or merely catching wrongdoers — true vigilance lies in creating robust systems that prevent wrongdoing in the first place,” Shikha Goel explained.
She urged everyone to work with a clear conscience and derive satisfaction from integrity-driven service, as society will always remember and honour those who act with honesty. Shikha Goel expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to address the employees of Singareni Collieries Company Limited — an organisation that lights up the nation.
SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram, who presided over the programme, highlighted the company’s 136-year journey, its achievements, upcoming expansion plans and various initiatives for women empowerment within Singareni. Later, Shikha Goel was felicitated on the occasion. Directors L.V. Suryanarayana, K. Venkateswarlu, Gowtham Potru and M. Tirumala Rao, Executive Director (Coal Movement) and Chief Vigilance Officer B. Venkanna, GM (Coordination) T.
