Enhance coordination among government departments to prevent revenue losses
Renowned Indian Economist Arvind Subramanian Meets Chief Minister Revanth Reddy
HYDERABAD, AUGUST 08, 2026: Following Telangana State witnessing robust economic growth, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and renowned economist Arvind Subramanian held extensive discussions on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to increase GST revenues and also formulating a strategy based on the technology.
Arvind Subramanian met with the Chief Minister at the Bodhi Pavilion in the MCRHRD Institute in Hyderabad on Friday evening. The CM and the noted economist focused on a strategic approach to improve the state’s financial health during the meeting and shared their views on the requirement of reforms in the GST and the Excise departments.
CM Revanth Reddy informed Subramaniam of several initiatives taken by the government to plug the leakages in the GST collections. The CM also briefed the economist about the new system which is being introduced to streamline the processes for GST officials using specialised AI-driven data, thereby facilitating a strategic path to enhance state revenue. The Chief Minister said that the new process would not cause any hindrances or difficulties for traders and business activity.
Subramanian stressed that the use of technology should improve the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ along with increasing revenue for the state exchequer. The economist also suggested developing AI-assisted coordination among the Municipal Administration, RERA, Panchayat Raj, Electricity, Finance, and Commercial Taxes departments to curb revenue leakage related to building and construction materials.
In a quick response, the CM directed the officials to collect the details of the construction material requirements and corresponding tax estimates at the initial application stage for large-scale building projects and contract works. The Chief Minister noted that integrating this data with information from MeeSeva, Arogyasri, and the CM Relief Fund would enhance administrative efficiency.
CM’s Advisor K. Ramakrishna Rao, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Commercial Taxes & Excise Secretary Raghunandan Rao, and Excise Commissioner Hari Kiran were also present.
