RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, MARCH 05, 2025: The ITC and Institute of Global Development, leading multinational healthcare organisations, conducted a thyroid awareness initiative at the KG to PG institutions at Government Degree College in Gambhiraopeta of Rajanna-Sircilla district on Wednesday.

Under the initiative, the organisers have conducted various tests, including height, weight, etc and given necessary prescriptions to the students. The campaign was aimed to create awareness of common symptoms of thyroid disorders. The initiative was aimed to educate students, teachers, and parents about thyroid-related health issues, their symptoms, preventive measures, and treatment options.

Expert doctors and healthcare professionals delivered informative sessions, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and a healthy lifestyle in preventing thyroid disorders. Interactive discussions and awareness materials were provided to enhance understanding among students.

Raising awareness about the essential role of iodine in maintaining good health and emphasising the consequences of iodine deficiency, the experts outlined the importance of iodine in daily nutrition and its crucial significance in preventing iodine deficiency disorders.

Iodine is an essential component of the thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which regulate metabolism and are crucial for fetal and infant development. Found in foods and iodized salt, iodine exists in several forms, including sodium and potassium salts, inorganic iodine (I2), iodate, and iodide. Iodide, the most common form, is quickly absorbed in the stomach and used by the thyroid for hormone production. Most excess iodide is excreted through urine.

The organisers conducted various competitions to educate the students about the importance of undergoing thyroid tests and taking appropriate precautionary measures. College Principal V Vijaya Lakshmi, coordinator Rajashekhar, faculty members Sangeetha, Ramya, Babu, Laxman, Tirupati, NSS coordinator Dharmapuri, Zoology head Bikshamaiah and others were also present.

The program was well received, with active participation from students, faculty, and medical experts. The college principal and faculty members appreciated the initiative, highlighting the importance of spreading health awareness at the grassroots level.
