Headmasters say that funds are insufficient and they are forced to approach philanthropists and others to provide nutritious food to students

HYDERABAD, JANUARY 29, 2025: The Telangana state government has released Rs 7.65 crore for providing healthy and hot snacks to the class X students attending special classes in the evening hours in the government, Zilla parishad and model schools for a period of 38 days from February 1 to March 20, 2025.
A total of 1,34, 375 students studying Class X in the Government, ZP and Model Schools will benefit from this initiative. The government has fixed a unit cost of Rs 15 per student and released the necessary budget. Surprisingly, some of the districts have instructed the HMs to conduct special classes in the morning and evening sessions. However, the government has made allocations only for the evening sessions to provide snacks.
As it is insufficient to meet the requirement of the students to provide snacks to the students, the government schools are forced to approach philanthropists to donate the same for providing the evening snacks. Stating that the government allocation of Rs 15 per student would not even provide an ‘alu samosa’, the headmasters said that they were forced to approach philanthropists and NGOs to support the students preparing for the SSC examinations.
