Garuda Dhwaja Patam hoisted atop temple mast in Tirumala
TIRUMALA, SEPTEMBER 15, 2026: The annual Brahmotsavams of Sri Venkateswara Swamy commenced on a grand and ceremonious note with the traditional Dhwajarohanam, the sacred flag-hoisting ceremony, at the Srivari temple in Tirumala on Tuesday evening.
The ritual was performed in accordance with the Vaikhanasa Agama during the auspicious Meena Lagnam, from 6:21 p.m. to 6:35 p.m.
Earlier, the Dhwajarohanam festivities began with a grand procession of Sri Malayappa Swamy, accompanied by His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, on the Golden Tiruchi.
The procession was accompanied by the Parivara Devatas.
The Dhwaja Patam, bearing the image of Garudalwar, was brought into the temple and offered special pujas. This was followed by Asthanam for the processional deities at the Tirumalaraya Mandapam inside the temple.
Religious Significance:
According to tradition, Garuda, the ardent devotee and foremost servant of Sri Venkateswara Swamy, visits all the worlds and invites the celestial deities to participate in the Brahmotsavams and bless the celebrations.
As part of the Dhwajarohanam rituals, Vedic scholars recited the Garuda Gadyam, Garuda Churnika and other related shlokas. Thereafter, the Garuda flag was ceremonially hoisted atop the temple mast.
Both the pontiffs of Tirumala, Sri Venkata Raghava Deekshitulu, the Kankanabhattar, TTD Executive Officer Sri Ravichandra, a few board members and other officials participated in the ceremony.
