KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 12, 2026: National Library Day was celebrated at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women in Nagnuru, Karimnagar town, on the occasion of the 134th birth anniversary of Dr S. R. Ranganathan on Wednesday.
Members of the library remembered Ranganathan and discussed his works and various issues of library science. Principal T Malathi launched the celebrations by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Ranganathan, who is widely recognised as the father of library sciences in India, for his significant contributions to the field.
On this occasion, Malathi said Ranganathan was the founder of the library science movement in the country, and no one had been able to reach the kind of achievement and the efforts that he had made in this regard. “There is a need to open more libraries in the city, so that the power of books could reach every section of society,” she added.
She also emphasised the importance of libraries as temples of learning within academic institutions and discussed the evolving role of libraries in the digital age. Vice-Principal S. Padmaja, ACO G. Vasumathi, IQAC Coordinator G. Samatha, N. Eshwaramma, M. Rajitha, K. Geetharani, S. Swapna, A. Renuka, G. Sandhya Rani, Ch. Kavitha, and M. Radhika participated in the programme. Kandi Shivani, a BCG-II Year student, delivered a speech on the occasion, highlighting the contributions of Dr S. R. Ranganathan and the importance of reading. Students also actively participated in the programme.
