40 lakh saplings to be planted across 675 hectares in SCCL
Under the ‘Neeti Bindhu – Jala Sindhu’ initiative, 48 new water tanks have been completed; desilting in over 25 water bodies has been completed

CMD N. Balram issues strict instructions to complete the remaining works within a week
HYDERABAD, MAY 30, 2025: In view of the onset of the monsoon, Singareni Collieries CMD N. Balram has instructed the company to undertake a massive Vana Mahotsavam (afforestation drive) across all areas of SCCL starting June 1. He stated that 40 lakh saplings will be planted and maintained over 675 hectares this year.
To review the progress of the prestigious ‘Neeti Bindhu – Jala Sindhu’ water conservation programme and the preparations for the afforestation activities, the CMD conducted a special video conference with company directors, area General Managers, and heads of the Forestry and Environment Departments. During the meeting, he assessed the area-wise targets for the Vana Mahotsavam and instructed the officials to ensure that the plantation targets are strictly met.
In line with the directions of the Government of Telangana, he emphasised that Vana Mahotsavam should be celebrated enthusiastically in every area with active participation from workers and local communities.
The CMD also reviewed the progress of the Neeti Bindhu – Jala Sindhu programme, which aims at enhancing groundwater levels in the Singareni region. Out of the 62 proposed mini water tanks, 48 have already been completed, and the CMD expressed satisfaction over this. He directed that the remaining works must be completed within a week.
As part of desilting works in existing water bodies, a target was set for 45 tanks, out of which 25 have already been completed, as reported by area officials. The CMD instructed that these be expedited with the coordination of local government machinery.
He noted that once completed, SCCL would have constructed or rejuvenated 107 water tanks, making this a landmark community welfare initiative. He further directed that civil works must ensure proper water inflow and maximum retention in the newly built tanks during the rainy season.
Stressing on quality, he advised taking strict measures to ensure the structural integrity of the embankments. The CMD also stated that he would personally inspect the progress of all 107 water bodies in the coming days.
The review meeting was attended by L.V. Suryanarayana, Director (Operations), K. Venkateshwarlu, Director (Personnel & Projects), S.D.M. Subhani, Executive Director (Coal Movement), Mohan Parigein, Advisor (Forestry), A. Manohar, GM (CPP), Saidulu, GM (Environment & Forestry) and other senior officials from headquarters and all area GMs via video conference.
