HANAMKONDA, APRIL 20, 2026: “As temperatures rise and heat becomes more intense, our lifestyles are being impacted in significant ways. Water scarcity is becoming increasingly urgent, and the steady drop in groundwater levels is particularly alarming. In this scenario, creation of rainwater harvesting pits is emerging as a vital solution,” remarked Lions District Governor Dr K Chandrasekhar Arya.
Speaking at an awareness program on rainwater harvesting organised by the Lions Club of Hanamkonda Tricity at the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Ashram School on Monday, Mr Arya stressed that it is a collective responsibility to prevent groundwater depletion, which is exacerbated by rapid urban growth and excessive concrete development. He highlighted that enabling rainwater to seep into the ground not only helps recharge groundwater levels but also enhances water availability in borewells and wells throughout the summer.

Second Vice District Governor Elect Revuri Ramana Reddy added that minimising rainwater wastage and fostering water conservation are crucial for maintaining environmental equilibrium. The programme was presided over by MJPTBCWR School Principal J. Anji Reddy, with Cabinet Treasurer Challa Raghunath Reddy and Region Chairperson Ponnala Samyuktha in attendance. Program Coordinator Katanguru Ramgopal Reddy prepared and distributed informative pamphlets to raise awareness among students. Club President Madadi Prasad Reddy, Region Secretary B. Narasimha Reddy, along with several teachers, were also present.
