KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 28, 2025: On the eve of National Statistics Day, which will be observed on June 29, to commemorate birth anniversary of Prof Prasanta Chandra Mohanlanobis, who founded the first Indian Statistical Institute, the students of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women, Karimnagar, celebrated National Statistics Day in advance on June 28, 2025, with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and faculty alike.
The event was organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, the father of modern statistics in India, and to highlight the vital role of statistics in national development and planning.
The celebrations began with an inaugural address by the Principal, T. Malathi, who emphasized the importance of statistical literacy among students and encouraged them to develop data-driven thinking for solving real-world problems. She highlighted the 2025 theme — “75 Years of National Sample Survey” — and its relevance in promoting evidence-based governance.
As part of the programme, S Gouthami, HoD of Department of Statistics, conducted various activities, including student presentations and a quiz competition.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Principal S Padmaja and faculty members stressed the need to integrate modern statistical tools and technologies like data visualisation and analytics into the curriculum to prepare students for emerging career opportunities in data science and research.
ACM Spray Conducted to Prevent Mosquito Breeding at College
As per the instructions of the District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), Karimnagar, an ACM spray was carried out at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women, Karimnagar, to prevent mosquito breeding. District Malaria Officer Dr. Uma Sri, HEO Ramanadham, and other members of the medical team visited the college and inspected the kitchen, handwash area, and surrounding premises.
The team found that there was no stagnant water or rodent presence on the campus. Principal T. Malathi, Vice Principal Padmaja, ACO G. Vasumathi, and College Medical Officer Dr. M. Chaitanya accompanied the inspection team during the visit.
