SIDDIPET, AUGUST 12, 2026: Kaveri University, under the aegis of the Knowledge Management Centre, celebrated National Librarians’ Day with great enthusiasm on Wednesday to commemorate the 134th birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India.
On the occasion, the university community remembered the remarkable contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan to the field of Library and Information Science. His Five Laws of Library Science continue to serve as guiding principles for effective and user-centric library services.
Addressing the gathering, the Registrar of Kaveri University, Dr B Srinivasulu, emphasized the crucial role of libraries and librarians in providing quality information and knowledge resources to students, faculty members, and researchers. He highlighted how library services are evolving through modern technologies, library automation, digital libraries, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based information services. He also stressed the need for libraries to continuously adapt to emerging technologies and future academic requirements.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. V. Praveen Rao, stated that libraries are the backbone of the education system and that librarians play a vital role in disseminating knowledge to society. He observed that digital libraries, e-resources, and AI-powered information services are enabling students to access knowledge more quickly and efficiently. He encouraged students to utilise the library not merely as a repository of books, but as a centre for knowledge discovery, learning, research, and innovation.
As part of the celebrations, quiz competitions were conducted for students. The winners were felicitated with certificates by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. V. Praveen Rao. While congratulating the winners, the Vice Chancellor encouraged students to actively participate in such knowledge-enhancing and academic activities.
The programme conveyed the meaningful message:
‘A Library is a Home of Knowledge – A Librarian is a Bridge that Connects People to Knowledge.’
The programme was attended by the Registrar, Director of Student Welfare Polsani Harsha Rao, Deans of various schools Dr G Pushpa Katha and Dr Sunita Mehta, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students, who contributed to the successful conduct of the National Librarians’ Day celebrations.
