Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment visits NIEPID (DIVYANGJAN) at Secunderabad

Mr Athawale reviews the implementation of Government schemes in Telangana

HYDERABAD, DECEMBER 13, 2024: Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Friday said that Divyangjans are persons with special abilities. He urged parents to help & guide them to build their special skills. The central government will provide all necessary support to the NIEPID Secunderabad Institute to ensure that the best facilities are provided to students here.

Mr Ramdas Athawale visited the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) in Secunderabad and distributed teaching-learning materials -TLM KITS to Divyangjans.

Addressing the event, the Union Minister said that the government is committed to upholding the honour and self-respect of the Divyang people. Replacing the term “Viklang” with “Divyang” symbolized a shift in societal attitudes towards recognizing the abilities and contributions of persons with disabilities. Many policies and initiatives are implemented by the Modi government aiming at improving the lives of Divyangjan, he added.  The Minister also appreciated the activities of the Institute and applauded the services being rendered by the Institute. He added that the Ministry of State for Social Justice & Empowerment is always ready to provide services to all needy persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

B.V. Ram Kumar, Director, NIEPID, welcoming the union minister at NIEPID, said that the institute has been rendering services to the PWIDs under the guidance of the honourable minister, and such visits motivate the institute staff, parents, and PWDs.

The Union Minister visited various service activities of the NIEPID Institute, including the Cross Disability Early Intervention Centre. He also distributed aids and appliances to persons with disabilities and interacted with parents of PWDs.

Later, Mr Athawale held a meeting with the senior administrative officials of Telangana to review the implementation of social justice and empowerment schemes for the eligible people in the state. Addressing the press conference, he said that various schemes are being run by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment for the marginalized sections such as scheduled castes, backward classes, senior citizens, and others. The Modi government is working to give social justice, equality, respect, and equal opportunities to all citizens. He said Cooperation with state government and various NGOs is needed in equal measure for the successful implementation of all these schemes.
