HYDERABAD, MAY 09, 2025: Amid rising tensions between India-Pakistan after the Pahalgam incident, the owners of Hyderabad’ Karachi Bakery has appealed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and DGP Jitender for support and guidance to ensure their brand name remains intact and the bakery is not frequently targeted whenever tensions erupt between India and Pakistan.

Refuting the claims that the Karachi means it is from Pakistan, the owners of Karachi Bakery urged the general public to support them, as they are an authentic Indian brand and not a brand from Pakistan.

Following protests that have erupted in Hyderabad and even in Visakhapatnam over the name of Karachi, Rajesh and Harish Ramnani, owners of the beloved Hyderabad bakery known for its fruit biscuits, emphasised that the bakery has Hyderabad’s identity and is uniquely Indian.
“Our grandfather Khanchand Ramnani established Karachi Bakery in 1953 in Hyderabad. We have been in Hyderabad for 72-years. When our grandfather left Pakistan during partition in 1947, he came to Hyderabad and established this bakery, named it after the city of Karachi. We urge Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and DGP to support and guide us at this time of crisis so that we do not have to change our name,” Rajesh and Harish Ramnani said.
For the past several days, protestors in Hyderabad have also been placing the tricolor on top of all the Karachi bakery outlets. “We are an authentic Indian brand and we request people of Hyderabad and the Country to support us,” they said.
Representatives of the Janajagrana Samiti staged a protest in front of Karachi Bakery in Venkojipalem, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. They objected to the name ‘Karachi’, questioning the relevance of naming a bakery after a city in Pakistan.
Calling it inappropriate, the protestors demanded that the bakery immediately change its name. They also urged the central government to file a treason case if the name was not changed.
