KARIMNAGAR, MAY 14, 2025: The Jyothishmathi Institute of Technology and Sciences (JITS) (autonomous) Karimnagar, is the only engineering college in the integrated Karimnagar district to offer major and minor degree for the students who are enrolled in B Tech courses (all streams) to help them become employable after completion of their courses.
Throwing light on this initiative, Juvvadi Sumith Sai, Secretary of JITS, said, “The key objective of this is to diversify the knowledge of the undergraduates. This will generate more employment options for them. This will provide him with more educational and professional skills after the completion of his undergraduate courses. It typically involves taking a set number of additional courses, determined by the department offering the minor, and once completed, the minor is indicated on the transcript.”

Telling about the applicability and entry level process, Mr Sumith said, “Students of B Tech (all branches) are eligible to opt for this degree. The candidate will start the minor degree in their individual B Tech from third year onwards”. He said that this option to pursue a minor course along with a full degree would be very beneficial for an engineering student as he can explore his inner abilities too, along with his core field.
While the core engineering branches, or the umbrella branches as they are popularly called, such as Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering have remained popular among students for decades, with the evolving needs of the industry and rapid advancements in the world of technology, the demand is for more specialised engineers and as a result the sub-branches which were earlier taught as part of the core engineering branches have now become full-fledged engineering branches of their own now.
Hence, the JITS, which has 28 years of excellence in the technological sciences, would be offering minor courses of AIML, IoT, Data Science and other popular courses. The JITS Secretary said that the students enrolled in the college would get an option to secure dual degrees and secure employment with ease.
He said that the students enrolled in the traditional courses, such as Mechanical engineering, Civil engineering, Electrical engineering etc, can also opt for minor courses in Artificial intelligence, IoT and Data sciences and secure employment as soon as they complete their graduation. He also said that the college had won accolades for its placements with the highest package of Rs 52 lakhs per annum.
