It also demands Equitable Muslim Representation in the State Cabinet and Urgent Reforms in the Government Schools’ Infrastructure
KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 12, 2025: The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Telangana, expresses its deep concern over multiple pressing issues affecting the rights and welfare of the Muslim community in the state and the broader public interest. The following matters were raised by President Mohd Khalid Mubashiruz Zafar at a press conference in Karimnagar town on Thursday.
Strongly opposing the enactment of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, which it considers unconstitutional, unjust, and discriminatory, he said that the Act allows government-appointed officials to adjudicate Waqf property disputes, undermining the autonomy of religious institutions and violating Article 26 of the Constitution. Furthermore, it opens the door to the encroachment and dispossession of undocumented Waqf properties traditionally used by the Muslim community for centuries.
The JIH calls upon the public to actively support the nationwide campaign against the law led by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.
Exclusion of Muslims in the Telangana State Cabinet
The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expresses grave disappointment over the complete exclusion of Muslims from the newly formed cabinet of the Telangana State Government. Despite the decisive electoral support extended by Muslim voters in the recent Assembly elections, not a single Muslim candidate has been inducted into the cabinet.
The JIH believes that this exclusion marks a disturbing continuation of the political marginalisation of Muslims in the state, even though they are the largest minority with 12.56% of Telangana’s population. The Congress party, which gained power with substantial support from the community, has failed to uphold inclusive and representative governance. Jamaat demands that the State Government urgently rectify this imbalance and include at least one Muslim representative in the cabinet to reflect the pluralistic mandate of the electorate.
Call for Urgent Reforms in Government Education
With the commencement of the new academic year in June, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind urges the State Government to focus on the improvement of educational standards and infrastructure in government-run schools across Telangana. The JIH urges the government to allocate funds for the renovation of dilapidated school buildings, construction of classrooms, and the provision of clean drinking water, toilets, and electricity in all government schools. It emphasises the need to recruit qualified teachers to address staff shortages, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
As education is the backbone of societal development, JIH calls on the government to invest in education and make quality education accessible to all sections of society.
