HYDERABAD, JANUARY 05, 2026: Peruka Raju, Junior Commissioned Officer in the Indian Army, an eminent poet, fiction writer, and translator, has been conferred with the prestigious Sankranti “Vishishta Kavi Rathna Puraskar” in recognition of his continuous and outstanding contribution to fiction and literature through his powerful and socially conscious pen.
The coveted award was presented by Nava Bharath Kalakshetram in the august presence of Ranjit, JN Rajendra , Chairman, Mana Film Chamber of Commerce, Pasunoori Srinivas, noted film personalities, E. Sanjeeva Raju, Director, Abhiram, Chitti Babu (Jabardasth artistes), Nirusha, Actress, Sarojana, Dubbing artist, Snehit, along with distinguished civil dignitaries, educationists, and literary figures. The award ceremony was held on the auspicious occasion of Sankranti at Prasad Film Lab, Hyderabad, on Sunday.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from civil dignitaries, youth, students, and literary enthusiasts, reflecting the wide influence and deep resonance of Peruka Raju’s literary journey. Presently serving the nation as a Junior Commissioned Officer in the Indian Army, Raju embodies a rare confluence of a soldier’s discipline and a poet’s sensitivity.
Widely acclaimed as a national poet, writer, and translator, he has successfully bridged emotions and cultures across multiple Indian languages. His forthcoming translated anthology of selected short stories from various Indian languages, titled “Saagu”, is scheduled for release shortly and is keenly awaited by literary circles across the country.
Beyond literature, Raju is deeply committed to social service. He has founded a non-governmental organisation titled “My Gift”, aimed at uplifting underprivileged sections of society—beginning with his native his native Narsingapur village of Chandurthi mandal in Rajanna-Sircilla district and extending its reach across the district. His philosophy underscores encouragement, empowerment, and compassion as the greatest gifts one can offer to society.
Earlier, Peruka Raju was honoured with several prestigious accolades, including the National Poetic Puraskar, Swarna Kankanam, and the Nandi Award, firmly establishing his stature among the most respected literary voices at the national level.
In a noble gesture, Peruka Raju dedicated the Vishishta Kavi Rathna Puraskar to the patriotic “Walajabadis” Jawans, paying homage to their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering service to the nation.
