KARIMNAGAR, DECEMBER 01, 2025: Highlighting the importance of protecting everyone’s rights to achieve the global goal of ending AIDS by 2030, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karimnagar observed World AIDS Day with the theme ‘Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response’ in Karimnagar town on Monday.
The IMA leaders, led by its president Dr Akula Shailaja, general secretary Dr N Mahesh Babu and Treasurer Dr Neelima and others, including medicos, participated in the programme in front of the Collectorate in Karimnagar town.
Dr Akula Shailaja, president of the IMA, said AIDS spreads through unsafe sex, needles and syringes, blood transfusion and from pregnant women to children. Prevention is the best treatment for AIDS, so people should have safe sex, a single partner, and they should say no to drugs. Besides, only tested blood should be taken from authorised blood banks, and the pregnant women should be tested, she added.
She also laid importance on good behaviour with AIDS and HIV positive people. Stressing on maintaining good moral character among the youth of today and keeping them away from drugs, she talked about various facilities being provided at the hospital for HIV patients, along with free screening and counselling for HIV and AIDS. She also said people could dial 104 (toll-free) for any information on AIDS and other diseases.
