Conducts a blood donation camp and educates people on the importance of maternal and newborn health
KARIMNAGAR, APRIL 07, 2025: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karimnagar chapter, in association with the Association of Physicians of India (API) Karimnagar chapter, conducted a blood donation camp as part of the World Health Day celebrations at IMA hall in Karimnagar town on Monday (April 7, 2025).
This year’s World Health Day theme is ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Future’ focusing on maternal and newborn health. Accordingly, the IMA and API had conducted a blood donation camp in coordination with the government blood bank in Karimnagar town and collected 41 units of blood for the bank. Incidentally, several doctors, journalists and others participated in the blood donation camp.
IMA Women Doctors Wing senior gynecologist Dr GB Madhavi stressed the need to reduce Maternity Mortality Rate (MMR) by educating pregnant women to visit the hospital for regular treatments and health checkups. She encouraged the need for institutional deliveries to reduce MMR.
Senior pediatrician Dr Ram Mohan expressed concern over the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in the country, which is 30 infant deaths for every 1,000 deliveries, when compared to 17 infant deaths in the world. He stressed that pregnant women to approach the doctors regularly for treatment and various health checkups to check MMR and IMR.
API Karimnagar chapter president Dr M Vijay Mohan Reddy said that the pregnant woman should ensure that they take all measures to check BP, Diabetes, Thyroid, obesity, heart ailments and other health issues for a healthy pregnancy and healthy newborn baby. DMHO Dr K Venkataramana also visited the blood donation camp and congratulated the IMA and API chapters.
