He directed that additional prasadam counters be arranged in view of the expected devotee turnout, and that mobile toilets and sanitation staff be deployed. Sthala Puranam
Historical evidence suggests that the temple of Sri Vedavalli Sametha Sri Vedanarayana Swamy at Nagalapuram was built during the reign of Sri Krishnadevaraya.
According to legend, a demon named Somakasura stole the Vedas and hid them in the ocean. Lord Maha Vishnu then took the Matsya (fish) incarnation, killed the demon, and restored the Vedas to Lord Brahma. Nagalapuram is believed to be the sacred place where this divine event occurred.
It is believed that Goddess Mahalakshmi and Lord Shiva had darshan of Lord Hari in his Matsya form at this kshetram. Hence, the place is also known as “Harikanthapuram.”
The temple is architecturally magnificent with five prakarams and seven entrances. A unique feature is that every year, the sun’s rays fall directly on the main deity (Moolavirat), an event celebrated grandly as “Surya Puja.”
