HYDERABAD, DECEMBER 27, 2025: The Telangana state government is contemplating declaring Sankranthi holidays from January 11 to 18, 2026, instead of the earlier announced five-day holiday from January 11 to 15, 2026.
According to the vacation announced by the Telangana School Education department, schools will have a five-day holiday from January 11 to 15. Additionally, as January 10 falls on the second Saturday, schools will get an extra holiday.
The State government recently notified holidays for 2026, declaring January 15 as a holiday for the Sankranti festival and January 16 as an optional holiday for the Kanuma festival. Going by this order, schools are to reopen the day after the festival holidays.
However, according to teacher unions, most parents will not send their children immediately after the Sankranti festival.
The teacher unions urged the government to extend holidays until January 18 and to reopen schools on January 19.
