KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 06, 2026: The Women Empowerment Cell of Government Degree College for Women (Autonomous), Karimnagar organised the “Aashadam Gorintaku Festival” on Thursday on the college premises in a traditional and vibrant atmosphere.
Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Principal Prof. D. Varalakshmi stated that the month of Aashadam holds a special place in Telugu culture and that Gorintaku (henna) symbolises joy, auspiciousness, and tradition for women. She emphasised that such celebrations help preserve and promote India’s rich cultural heritage while fostering unity, togetherness, and mutual affection among women.
Speaking on the occasion, B. Rajani Devi, Coordinator of the Women Empowerment Cell, said that the programme was organised with the objective of preserving cultural values among women and promoting self-confidence and a spirit of cooperation. She also highlighted the medicinal properties of henna, stating that its application helps protect the skin from various skin ailments.
On this occasion, the women teaching and non-teaching staff of the college enthusiastically participated by grinding fresh henna leaves and applying Mehendi to one another while dressed in traditional attire, reflecting the cultural significance of the Aashadam month. The college campus was beautifully decorated with traditional decorations, and the participants celebrated the occasion with great enthusiasm and festive spirit.
The programme was attended by Principal Prof. D. Varalakshmi, Women Empowerment Cell Coordinator B. Rajani Devi, Women Empowerment Cell members C. H. Vidya, Nazia Rehman, Sudhama, and Anusha, along with the women teaching and non-teaching staff of the college.
