HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 13, 2024: Former Delhi University Professor GN Sai Baba (57), who spent 10 years in jail in an alleged Maoists links case, died at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) due to post-operative complications on Saturday night, seven months after he was acquitted in the Maoists links case.
Professor Sai Baba was suffering from a gallbladder infection and was operated on two weeks ago but developed complications subsequently. His gall bladder was removed and a stent. However, there was an infection and suffering from stomach ache and high temperature. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment on Saturday night. He is survived by his wife Vasantha and a daughter Manjeera.
He was arrested under provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in 2014 and kept in Nagpur jail; for 10 years. In March this year, the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court acquitted Sai Baba and others in the alleged Maoists links case.
