KARIMNAGAR, NOVEMBER 17, 2025: An extensive and enlightening extension lecture on “The Scientific Journey from DNA to Recombinant DNA Technology” was organised on Monday by the Department of Microbiology, Government SRR Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Karimnagar.
The lecture was delivered by an eminent scientist and Associate Professor of Microbiology, Alpula Madhiri from Dr BRR Government Degree College (Autonomous), Jadcherla. Madhiri presented a comprehensive overview of the discovery of DNA, its double-helical structure, and the fundamental molecular mechanisms, including replication, transcription, and translation, supported by clear visual illustrations.

She further elaborated on the scientific breakthroughs that led to the development of recombinant DNA technology, explaining in detail the role of restriction endonucleases, ligases, cosmids, plasmid vectors, gene cloning techniques, and various laboratory procedures involved in genetic engineering.
Highlighting the applications of recombinant DNA technology, she explained how it has revolutionised medicine, agriculture, industry, pharmaceuticals, vaccine development, and gene therapy. She also referred to several Nobel Prize–winning research contributions in modern biotechnology.
The session proved highly inspiring, fostering scientific curiosity among students. A large number of biology students attended enthusiastically and actively participated in the interactive question-and-answer session.
Following the lecture, Routhu Radhakrishnan (Head, Department of Botany) and Satish (Head, Department of Biochemistry) felicitated the guest speaker and appreciated her insightful and motivating presentation.
Faculty members Padala Thirupathi, Kumari Mridula, Latha, Bunga Thirupathi, and others participated in the programme. The department announced that such extension lectures will be organized regularly to strengthen scientific understanding among students.
