HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 17, 2026: The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, successfully hosted an engaging and thought-provoking talk on Trends in Media: Journalism in the Digital Era, led by T. Kalyan Chakravarthy, Resident Editor of The New Indian Express, Telangana.
In his address, Mr Chakravarthy examined the dynamic shifts in media practices, drawing attention to the challenges posed by the rush for instant news against the enduring need for fact-checking and record verification. He reminded participants that while digital platforms have accelerated the speed of information, credibility and authenticity must never be sacrificed.

He emphasised that journalists must adopt technology and instant media tools with responsibility and discernment, while continuing to uphold objectivity and critical analysis as the essence of balanced reporting. Stressing that speed should not undermine accuracy, Mr. Chakravarthy reaffirmed the role of newspapers as reliable custodians of verified information. He also debunked the myth of the “demise of the newspaper,” asserting that print journalism remains vital, offering depth, authenticity, and permanence. Highlighting the skills necessary for relevance in the digital age, he underscored the importance of originality, authenticity, and strong written communication.

Concluding his talk, Mr Chakravarthy affirmed that journalism’s relevance lies in its responsibility to truth and fairness, and that newspapers, far from being obsolete, continue to serve as powerful media for fact-checking and credibility.
The session was attended by students and faculty members of the Department of Communication, including the Head of the Department, Rajaram, along with other participants. The discussion inspired the audience to reflect on the evolving role of journalism, encouraging them to embrace technology while safeguarding the timeless values of the profession.
