HYDERABAD, APRIL 16, 2026: The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) organised a lecture titled “The Unfinished Constitution: Liberty, Equality, Fraternity in Contemporary India” on the occasion of Bharat Ratna Dr B. R. Ambedkar Jayanti.
The distinguished talk was delivered by Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law, and chaired by Prof. N. Nagaraju, Vice-Chancellor of EFLU. Prof. Rao highlighted the aspirational character of the constitution, while noting that constitutional development is a continuous process requiring interpretation and execution.
Prof. Rao elaborated on the triad of liberty, equality, and fraternity, noting that fraternity—though indispensable—remains under-realised. Describing fraternity as “social endosmosis,” he called it a shared project of solidarity essential for social cohesion. Prof. Rao cautioned that political democracy cannot remain stable without a just social order. He stressed that the three arms of government must work in harmony – the legislature to enact effective laws and to operationalise constitutional principles, the executive to ensure implementation so that guarantees are realised, and the judiciary for deepening understanding through interpretation of rights.

Prof. Rao emphasised that India’s future depends on deepening our collective understanding of liberty, equality, and fraternity. Concluding his lecture, Prof. Rao asserted that building a just society is the shared responsibility of both the Constitution and its citizens.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Registrar, Sini Manchala, Proctor, Prof. Shyam Rao Rathod, OSD to VC, Rajaram, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students.
