HYDERABAD, JANUARY 23, 2025: Dr MCR HRD Institute rolled out a 16-week Induction Training Program for 122 Examiners of Patents & Designs – 2025, under the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trade Marks (CGPDTM), DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. The event marked a significant milestone in equipping Officers to play a critical role in India’s Intellectual Property (IP) landscape as “Boudhik Sampada Prabhari (Guardians of Intellectual Wealth). The objective of the program is to impart training in the examination of applications for patents from techno-legal perspectives and also to expose them to the inputs in administration.
Dr Shashank Goel, DG of the Institute & Spl Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana said that the Examiners of Patents and Designs are at the forefront of India’s patent and design examination process. “By ensuring that the deserving patents and designs are granted, you contribute directly to creating an environment of innovation and creativity in India and your work will have long-lasting effects on the Intellectual Property ecosystem”, he highlighted
Dr Goel noted that the work done by the Examiners does not exist in isolation, but is intrinsically linked to the global Intellectual Property (IP) ecosystem. “Clarity on the international framework is critical not only to performing your duties with precision but also to ensuring that India’s IP System aligns with global standards and practices”, he highlighted.
Professor (Dr) Unnat P Pandit, Controller General, Patents, Design, & Trademarks (CGPDTM) highlighted a key organizational achievement, that is, the sanctioning and recruitment of 550 Examiners of Patents & Design (Group A Gazetted), which demonstrates the Government’s commitment to strengthen India’s intellectual ecosystem. He highlighted the increasing trend in IP filing and disposals, which reflects India’s growing prominence in the global IP Landscape.
Prof Pandit recited a motivational poem by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to inspire the Examiners to seize the opportunities and contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
Hemanth S Borale, Director (Administration) & Chief Vigilance Officer, office of the CGPDTM highlighted the Office’s achievement of granting over one lakh patents in the financial year 2023-24 and advised the Officers to leverage the facilities provided during their training for both personal and professional development.
S Thangapandian and V Rekha, Joint Controllers, Patents & Design presented a brief report on the salient features of the Induction Training Program.
On this occasion, Dr Goel, Professor (Dr) Unnat P Pandit, Hemanth S Borale, and other dignitaries released the Course Manual. DT Chary, Course Director welcomed the gathering and Dr KV Satya, Addl. Course Director, conducted proceedings of the Inaugural Function.
