
HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 29, 2024: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, raided a medical shop located at Bommakallu Village, Madugulapalli Mandal, Nalgonda District, which was operating illegally without a drug license. The officials have seized stocks worth Rs. 60,000 from the premises.
DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information regarding the illegal sale of medicines, raided a medical shop located Bommakallu Village, Madugulapalli Mandal, Nalgonda District, on 28th October, 2024. Gurram Naresh was running a medical shop named Navya Sri Medical and General Stores at the said premises illegally, without a drug licence.
During the raid, DCA officers detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantity of medicines for sale. 30 varieties of medicines including antibiotics, analgesics, etc. are found stocked for sale at the premises. DCA officials seized the stock of total worth Rs. 60,000 during the raid. G. Surender, Drugs Inspector, Nalgonda carried out the raid under the supervision of K. Dass, Assistant Director, Nalgonda. DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
The public should avoid purchasing medicines from unlicensed medical shops. Buying medicines from such sources significantly increases the risks to public health as they are unregulated. It is advisable to purchase medicines only from licensed medical shops. Licensed medical shops typically ‘display their drug licences’ issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, conspicuously in a prominent place that is easily visible to the public. Selling medicines without a licence is considered an offence, and medicines purchased from unlicensed premises are likely to be counterfeit products.

This allows individuals to check whether the medical shop or pharmacy is authorized to sell medicines or not.
The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
