HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 13, 2024: Officilas of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana continued their drive against unlicensed medical shop, quacks, neutraceuticals, overpriced medicines and misleading claims on certains ayurvedic medicines in various parts of the Telangana state on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In a statement here on Wednesday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that acting on credible information regarding the illegal sale of medicines, the DCA officials raided a medical shop located at Errapahad Village, Noothanakal Mandal, Suryapet District, which being operated by Jalagam Venkateshwarlu at the said premises illegally without a drug licence.
During the raid, DCA officers detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantity of medicines for sale. 30 varieties of medicines including antibiotics, analgesics, etc. are found stocked for sale at the premises. DCA officials seized the stock of total worth Rs. 22,000 during the raid. G. Surendar, Drugs Inspector, Suryapet carried out the raid.
On credible information, the DCA raided the premises of a quack Akula Gopinath, at Deshmukhi Village, Bhoodhan Pochampally Mandal, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri District, who was practicing medicine without proper qualification at his clinic. During the raid, DCA officials detected 31 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, analgesics etc., found stocked at the premises without a drug licence. DCA officials seized the stock, worth a total of Rs. 38,382/- during the raid. J. Ashwin Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri carried out the raid.
Seizure of drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’
In another raid, the officials detected drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’. Drugs Control Administration officials in Khammam have detected the product ‘Feromen XT Tablets’ (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid, Zinc Tablets) circulating in the market. The product has been claimed to contain Ferrous Ascorbate equivalent to elemental iron 100 mg, Folic Acid 1.5 mg, Zinc Sulphate 22.5 mg. The product was found to be manufactured at Evertouch Lifecare, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Ch. Anil Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Khammam Urban carried out the raid.
Seizure of overpriced medicines
The Drugs Control Administration officials seized overpriced medicine: Sofrabact Cream (Mupirocin Cream 2% w/w) at Kamareddy. The product Mupirocin Cream 2% w/w sold under brand name ‘Sofrabact Cream’ is under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of the products shall be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India. Seizure of drugs for misleading advertisements:
The Drugs Control Administration officials detected certain ayurvedic medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat High Blood Pressure, Kidney Stones, Bladder Stones, Diabetes. Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
They seized Normact tablets, Dava-Tone syrup, Urical syrup and D-Co-D tablets for misleading claims. V. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector, Nizamabad Urban, Dr. B. Lakshmi Narayana, Drugs Inspector, Uppal, N. Sahaja, Drugs Inspector, Kukatpally and Mohd. Rafhi Shaik, Drugs Inspector, Jadcherla, are among the officers who carried out the raids.
