
HYDERABAD, MAY 21, 2025: Officials of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, conducted raids on clinics operated by quacks and seized illegally stocked drugs worth Rs 50,147 intended for sale at two separate locations, including: Raviryala Village, Tukkuguda Muncipality, Maheshwaram Mandal, Ranga Reddy District and Old Dornakal Village, Dornakal Mandal, Mahabubabad District
Since January 2024, the DCA has registered cases against 163 quacks for the illegal stocking and sale of drugs.

According to DCA Director Shanawaz Qasim here on Wednesday, following credible information, on 20th May, officials from the DCA raided the premises of quacks who were claiming themselves as ‘Rural Medical Practitioners’ and practicing medicine without proper qualifications at their clinics nu Gundlapalli Narasimha and Mohammed Masood and seized substantial quantities of medicines stocked for sale without a drug license were found.
Medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, anti-ulcer drugs, analgesics, IV fluids, and medical devices such as infusion sets, cannulae, etc., were found stocked at the clinics. Additionally, Physician’s Samples — Not for Sale were seized from the premises of a quack’s clinic at Old Dornakal Village, Mahabubabad District.
DCA officials detected several ‘antibiotics’, viz., Cefixime, Ceftriaxone, Cefpodoxime, Amoxicillin, Metronidazole, at the clinics during the raids. The indiscriminate sale of antibiotics, by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on public health, including the emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’.
Officials found ‘steroids’, viz., Dexamethasone at the clinic of a quack in Raviryala Village, Tukkuguda Muncipality, Maheshwaram Mandal, RangaReddy District. The misuse of steroids can lead to serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular complications, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health.
G Prasad, Assistant Director, Ranga Reddy, M. Aravind Kumar, Assistant Director, Khammam, Dr. P. Sravanthi Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Maheshwaram, and S. Umarani, Drugs Inspector, Mahabubabad, were among the officers who carried out the raids. DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
ADVISORY
It is hereby informed that Wholesalers/Dealers supplying medicines to quacks, other unqualified persons, and unlicensed shops, who are found stocking and selling drugs without a valid drug license, shall be liable for penal action under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Stringent action shall be initiated against such Wholesalers/Dealers involved unauthorised and illegal supply chains.
All Wholesalers/Dealers are mandatorily directed to ensure that medicines are supplied only to entities with valid drug licenses issued by the competent Licensing Authority. Every Wholesaler/Dealer is responsible for verifying and maintaining records of the validity of drug licenses of recipient establishments before effecting supplies. Non-compliance in this regard will attract strict action as per the law.
The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
