KARIMNAGAR, NOVEMBER 07, 2024: The District Congress party senior leaders have urged Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar to take measures to allocate at least 20 guntas of land for the installation of veteran Congress leader Velichala Jagapathi Rao on the premises of Ujwala park on the outskirts of Karimnagar town.
Accordingly, the Congress leaders led by Gandi Rajeshwar Rao submitted a memorandum to the Minister for the allocation of land for the installation of the Jagapathi Rao statue on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on Thursday. The Congress leaders reminded that the Ujwala Park was conceived by Mr Jagapathi to increase the green coverage in the Karimnagar town. They said that Mr Jagapathi Rao was very fond of saplings and the plantation of trees and developed a mini Mysore garden on the premises of his house.
Mr Jagapathi Rao was elected to the State Legislative Assembly for the first time from Jagtial constituency in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh on a Congress ticket. He was a member of the Legislative Council from the Karimnagar Graduates’ Constituency in 1978. He had won as an independent candidate from the Karimnagar Assembly constituency in 1989. Mr Rao held several key positions including chairman of APMarkfed in undivided Andhra Pradesh state.
He strived for the development of Karimnagar with a vision and always was in the forefront for the upliftment of poorer sections of society. Hence, the Congress leaders urged the MCK Commissioner to allocate a suitable site for the installation of Mr Rao’s statue in Karimnagar.
