He cultivated a Marigold crop in 30 guntas of land and earned Rs 3 lakhs
KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 30, 2025: Instead of cultivating the traditional paddy, cotton and other crops, a farmer has cultivated marigold flowers and reaped riches during the Dasara and Diwali festivals, which have been in huge demand during the festival season.
A progressive farmer, Thirupathi from Chakunta village of Choppadanddi mandal, Karimnagar, has shifted from traditional paddy cultivation to cultivating marigolds of two varieties with ‘Kunkuma and Sankranti’. He earned Rs 3 lakhs from only 30 guntas of land, during the last two festivals, Bathukamma and Diwali.
The yellow colored marigold flower is a key ingredient in all festivals of the Hindu religion. Unfortunately, very few farmers are showing interest in growing the crop owing to certain difficulties in cultivating it and the costs involved. But Thirupathi, a young farmer from Chakunta, has cultivated Marigold flowers and reaped riches.
He invested Rs 70,000 for labour charges, seeds, fertilizers and pesticides and earned Rs 2.3 lakh as profits by cultivating Marigold crop in just 30 guntas of land.
Mr Thirupathi said it is challenging but a profitable crop. “You need to take care of the plants from the stage of germination till flowering. I studied techniques to grow this crop by watching videos on YouTube and some magazines on agriculture. I am fascinated by the flower crop. One can earn higher earnings by cultivating the flowers, following heavy demand for the same in the market,” he said.
