Continuous garbage clearing drive by the health wing
Waste accumulation increased from 50 tonnes to 75 tonnes per day

TTD appeals to devotees to keep the environs clean and tidy
TIRUMALA, MAY 24, 2026: Despite the increasing crowd of devotees in Tirumala during summer vacations, weekends and special darshans, utmost priority is being given to maintaining cleanliness so that the devotees do not face any inconvenience.
Currently, there are about 210 toilets available for devotees in Tirumala, and TTD is managing 130 additional toilets. Standard operating procedure is being implemented to clean it every hour. Special training has also been provided to the staff on the use of chemicals, disinfectants and hygiene standards.
More than 1,500 to 2,000 devotees use the toilets in areas with high devotee usage every day. TTD is also taking measures for road cleanliness. Real-time road sweeping, garbage collection, and water spraying are continuously being carried out. Recently, even during the leaf fall season, the sanitation staff worked tirelessly and made a special contribution to the cleanliness of Tirumala.

Recently, due to the huge increase in the number of devotees, the distribution of Annaprasadam to devotees in the queue lines outside is continuing, resulting in a large accumulation of food waste as some devotees are throwing away food items without completely consuming them. Especially at nights, food waste is piling up on the back of the queue lines.
The sanitation staff is taking special cleaning measures with dedication from the next morning, even in difficult conditions such as hilly geographical conditions, ditches, slope areas, drainage channels, and snakes roaming at night. Along with removing the collected waste, steps like bleaching and cooling are also being taken.
The wet waste, which used to be up to 50 tons on normal days, is currently accumulating up to 60 to 75 tons due to the increased pilgrim footfall.
TTD has appealed to the devotees to be a part in the cleanliness of the surroundings and to cooperate in not wasting food items as the protection of the environment is everyone’s responsibility.
