Nirmal POCSO court sentences a man to 20 years in jail for raping a minor by luring her on promise of marrying 

NIRMAL, SEPTEMBER 12, 2024: The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court in Nirmal has awarded 20 years jail term for a man who sexually assaulted a minor girl on the promise of marrying her in Tharlapadu village of Khanapur mandal of Nirmal district in June 2023.

Nirmal District Judge and POCSO Fast Track Court Judge A Karna Kumar on Thursday sentenced the accused Chand Kumar Maravi (20) to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 1500 under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POSCO Act. He was also sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for five years under Section 363 (kidnapping), for seven years under Section 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc), and for three years under Section 344 (wrongful confinement for ten or more days) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). All the sentences will run concurrently.

The complainant Durke Balaji from Maharashtra state was staying in Tharlapadu village of Khanapur mandal along with his family members by working in a cement brick industry. Accused Chand Kumar Maravi (20) from Madhya Pradesh state was also working in the same brick industry.

The accused had lured the daughter of Balaji by befriending with her stating that he was loving her and would marry her. He took her to his native village in Madhya Pradesh state and kept her in illegal confinement and sexually assaulted her repeatedly.

Following the complaint lodged by victim’s father Balaji, the police registered a case and filed a charge-sheet in the court. The Public prosecutor Y Vishwas produced 15 witnesses in the country and after confirming the evidences of the witnesses the POCSO court judge awarded the punishment.

Then Nirmal DSP L Jeevan Reddy and present DSP A Ganga Reddy, Court Liaison officer Dallu Singh, Khanapur CDO (court duty officer) Srinivas and other police officials were appreciated by Superintendent of Police Dr G Janaki Sharmila for ensuring the conviction of the accused in POCSO Act case.
