
Since January 2024, the DCA has registered cases against 146 quacks for the illegal stocking and sale of drugs.
HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 09, 2025: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, raided a quack’s clinic and seized drugs stocked for sale at Bolaram Village, Alwal Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District.
DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy stated in a press note here on Sunday that on credible information, DCA raided the premises of a quack/unqualified practitioner Bollepally Bharani Vamshi Goud, near Sadhana Mandir School Chowrasta, Risala Bazar, Bolaram Village, Alwal Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, who was conducting clinical practice without proper qualifications at his clinic, on Saturday.
During the raid, DCA officials detected 28 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, antiulcer drugs etc. stocked at the premises without a drug licence. Medicines worth of the stock seized is Rs. 30,000. The DCA officials detected several ‘antibiotics’ viz. Amoxycillin, Cefixime, Ofloxacin, Azithromycin at the clinic during the raids. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics, by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on the health of public, including the emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’.
Officials found ‘steroids’ viz. Dexamethasone at the clinic of the quack. Misusing steroids can have serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health. The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
