DCA officials seize overpriced medicines and raid a hospital for unauthorised stocking of drugs

HYDERABAD, JANUARY 07, 2025: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana seized overpriced anti-fungal medicine ‘ITROZEN-100 Capsules’ (Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg) in Mancherial – The MRP indicated is significantly higher than the Ceiling Price fixed for the product by the Central Government.

In a separate event, the Drugs Control Administration raided a hospital located in Mahabubabad Village, Mahabubabad District, and seized drugs due to unauthorized stocking for sale. DCA also detected the sale of drugs at prices higher than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) imprinted on the label to patients by the hospital.

In an official release here on Tuesday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the DCA officials conducted raids on Monday and seized ‘ITROZEN-100 Capsules’ (Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg) at a medical shop located in Mancherial. The product Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg sold under brand name ‘ITROZEN-100 Capsules’ is under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of product shall be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India.

The product ‘ITROZEN -100 Capsules’ (Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg) of  B. No.: ARC-042401A, Mfg Dt: 04/2024; Exp Dt: 03/2026 ; Manufactured by: Allcure Remedies LLP, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana, Manufactured for: Healthkey Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., Jagadhri, Haryana, bears MRP as Rs. 245/- for 10 capsules, on the label of the product which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.

The Ceiling price fixed by the Central Government including Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for the product “Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg” is Rs. 16.67 for one capsule (Ceiling Price) i.e. Rs. 166.7 for 10 capsules.

Hence Maximum Retail Price (MRP) i.e. including GST 12 % should not be more than Rs. 187 for 10 capsules (MRP=Ceiling Price+GST). The firm overpriced the product. Firm charged excess of Rs. 58/- for 10 capsules which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. T. Chandana, Drugs Inspector, Mancherial carried out the raid.

Raid Conducted at a Hospital in Mahabubabad Village, Mahabubabad District

In another operation, the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials, officials, acting on credible information, carried out a raid at Nikhma Health Care Pvt. Ltd. Hospital, New Bazar, Mahabubabad Village, Mahabubabad District, on Monday. During the raid, DCA officers detected the unauthorized stocking of drugs, including IV fluids, in violation of the provisions of Schedule K of the Drugs Rules, 1945. It was also found that certain drugs were sold to patients by the hospital at prices higher than the MRP. DCA officials seized the stocks. S.
