
HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 28, 2025: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, have continued their drive against unlicenced medical shops, quacks, falsely manufactured drugs and misleading claims by certain medicines in various parts of Telangana state on Thursday.
On credible information, the DCA officials raided a medical shop located at Shaikpet, Hyderabad, which was operating illegally without a drug license and seized the stocks and 30 varieties of medicines worth RS 80,000. They raided unlicensed premises at Alma Care Clinic, Mahabubnagar, which was operating illegally without a drug license and seized the stocks worth Rs 70,000.
The DCA officials conducted raids on clinics operated by quacks and seized illegally stocked drugs intended for sale at three separate locations, including: Moglaigidda Village, Farooqnagar Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, Nagaram Village, Keesara Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District and in Mahabubnagar district. DCA officials detected several ‘antibiotics’ viz., Amikacin, Cefpodoxime, Cefuroxime etc. at the clinics during the raids. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics, by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on the health of public, including emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’. DCA officials seized the stocks, worth a total of Rs. 1.10 lakhs during the special raids.
In a separate event, DCA, Telangana seized Ribovin Tablets (Riboflavin Tablets 2 mg) in Habsiguda, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, which were falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’.
In another event, officials seized 14 medicines due to misleading advertisements regarding leucoderma, prophylaxis and treatment of eye infections, menstrual disorders, functional uterine bleeding, blood pressure regulation, uterine fibroids, kidney stones, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, fever, typhoid, heart blockage prevention, and obesity.
DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
