HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 26, 2024: The Andhra Pradesh state police have arrested former CID Additional SP Vijay Paul on the charges of custodial torture allegations against deputy speaker and former Narsapur MP Raghu Rama Krishna Raju.
The arrest followed a prolonged interrogation by the Prakasam District police at the Ongole SP office on Tuesday. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju had accused CID officials of subjecting him to custodial torture during his tenure as an MP in the previous government. Prakasam SP Damodar is leading the investigation into the case.
Earlier, Vijay Paul had appeared for questioning on November 13, but police were reportedly unable to gather substantial information. He was called in for another round of questioning on Tuesday, which culminated in his arrest.
Vijay Paul had sought anticipatory bail from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, but his petition was dismissed. He later filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, which was also rejected, paving the way for his arrest.
