KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 24, 2024: The Karimnagar rural police in association with the NSS wing of the Jyothishmathi Institute of Technology and Sciences (JITS) (autonomous) on the outskirts of Karimnagar town organised anti-drug awareness programme on the college premises on Monday.
Karimnagar Rural ACP P Venkata Ramana, LMD Inspector R Swamy, women police station Inspector Srilatha, LMD SI Cheralu, MD Neuro Dr Shiva Kumar, JITS chairman J Sagar Rao and Principal Dr KS Rao, NSS programme officer J Pranitha and others were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, the ACP explained the ill-effects of drug abuse and urged the gathering to cooperate with the police to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society and asked them to share information with the police about those indulging in drug trafficking in their areas.
Urging the students to abide by the teachers’ guidance to make society drug-free, he encouraged students to hold awareness talks with people are were addicted to drugs or their family members and direct them towards de-addiction centres. The police officials suggested the students to organise contests like debates, declamations, essay-writing, painting, slogan-writing, skits, short-films, rallies etc to focus on ill-effects of drug abuse and alcoholism.
Neuro Physician Dr Shiva Kumar explained how the drugs and alcohol would affect the functioning of brain and loss of memory power. He appealed to the people to desist from any kind of drug substance. Women Police station inspector Srilatha empowered the students about the SHE teams and enlightened the students to fight against the drug menace in the district.
