ADILABAD, OCTOBER 25, 2024: The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has estimated that the cotton supply in India for the current season (starting October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025) to be 357.44 lakh bales of 170 kg each. This is 14.25 lakh bales lesser than the production recorded last year.

In a press release, CAI president Atul S. Ganatra quotes cumulative statistics provided by all CAI member states. He estimated that 302.25 lakh bales will be the quantum of cotton pressing during the current crop season.
The highest cotton yield during the last five years was 2.67 bales per hectare in 2019-20 season and lowest was 2.42 bales in 2021-22. Quoting the Ministry of agriculture report of September 27, 2024, the CAI president said cotton was sown in 112.9 lakh hectare which means the highest cotton production in India during 2024-25 would be 301 lakh bales and average production is estimated to be 288 lakh bales going by the statistics related with yield of the crop.
The CAI has also maintained the consumption of cotton across all states to be 313 lakh bales while the imports are estimated to be 18 lakh bales as against last year’s 28.5 lakh bales. The opening stock this crop season was 30.19 lakh bales.
