KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 30, 2026: The Karimnagar District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB), in association with the Cooperative Training Institute (CTI), Hyderabad, inaugurated a two-day workshop on detection of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) at the conference hall, DCCB head office in Karimnagar town on Friday.
DCCB CEO N Satyanarayana Rao, general managers B Sridhar and Md Riyazuddin, PACS Development Centre resource person G Satyanarayana, AGM Mahesh, CTI faculty members Vijay Kumar Reddy and GL Suresh faculty members participated in the workshop. The KDCCB cashiers participated in the workshop physically, and the cashiers of various DCCBs spread across Telangana state participated in a virtual mode from Karimnagar DCCB.
The session covered security features embedded in the genuine Indian currency notes, techniques for detecting counterfeit notes by using modern equipment such as ultraviolet (UV) lamps, note-sorting machines and authentication machines.

With regard to the handling of counterfeit notes, the bank staff were instructed that the fake notes should not be returned to the tenderer or destroyed at the branch. They must be stamped as ‘counterfeit note’, impounded, and recorded in a dedicated register under authentication. An acknowledgement receipt (running serial number) must be issued to the tenderer, authenticated by both the cashier and the tenderer (even if the customer refuses to countersign).
The move is aimed at improving the accuracy and consistency of counterfeit note identification while reducing the circulation of fake currency in the banking system. Counterfeit currency poses risks to financial stability, public confidence and economic security. By enhancing staff capabilities, the RBI seeks to improve early detection and prevent forged notes from re-entering circulation.
CEO N Satyanarayana Rao said that they had conducted the workshop to train the cash-handling banking staff (cashiers) to detect Fake Indian Currency Notes at the counters as per the instructions of Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
