PCI had sanctioned M Pharmacy courses at University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences at LMD reservoir
But SU authorities shifted the M Pharmacy courses to the University main campus at Malkapur and are offering education with only guest faculty, without labs and a library
It is a blatant violation of PCI norms, which had sanctioned M Pharmacy courses
There were no takers for M Pharmacy courses at SU due to poor facilities and no experienced faculty members
KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 24, 2026: The Satavahana University authorities are acting as per their ‘whims and fancies’, violating the mandatory PCI norms and causing umpteen woes to the students of M Pharmacy course in Karimnagar town.
The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has sanctioned M Pharmacy courses (three specialisations viz Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology and Pharm Analysis, each intake of 15 students) from the academic year 2025-26 at the University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the shores of LMD reservoir in Karimnagar town.
But, the University authorities had flouted the norms and shifted the M Pharmacy courses from the sanctioned University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences to the Satavahana University premises for ‘obvious’ reasons better known to the authorities concerned. During the year 2025-26, there were only 25 admissions against the total intake of 45. Presently, during the year 2026-27, the admissions have further come down to 19 students in spite of the conduct of spot admissions.
The decline in admissions in various M Pharmacy courses is being attributed to the shifting of the PG courses from the University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences to the ill-equipped Satavahana University premises. The students do not have basic facilities such as laboratories and a library. Besides, there are only guest faculty to teach M Pharmacy with little or no experience in teaching.
Whereas, the University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences located at the LMD reservoir is fully equipped with labs, a library and experienced staff (though part-timers). But the Pharmacy college had ensured that a record number of 134 students secured GPAT admissions and 95 students in NIPER and 346 students in PGECET admissions from 2013 to 2026.
The learned University authorities should be aware that the M Pharmacy course is an extension course of B Pharmacy, and it should be located at the University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences only, as per the guidelines of PCI. “How would the students learn the Pharmacy subject without laboratories at M Pharmacy courses being offered at the University campus, when it is a professional course?. The M Pharmacy students studying at Satavahana University at Malkapur, on the outskirts of Karimnagar town, have neither laboratories nor a library to browse through important pharmacy journals, which are located at the University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences at LMD shores in Karimnagar.
The faculty members at the University College of Pharmacy are well-suited to teach the M. Pharmacy at their college, with available labs and a library, as is evident from several securing admissions through GPAT, NIPER, etc. But Satavahana University purposefully shifted the M. Pharmacy course and took up separate recruitment with guest faculty, causing a huge loss to the students by failing to provide quality higher education.
