KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 12, 2026: Karimnagar town shimmered in festive colours on Sunday as the Dandiya festival 2026 began at the famous Sri Maha Shakthi temple in Chaitanyanpuri Colony, Karimnagar, blending spirituality and tradition.
Abstain or indulge? Fast or feast? Amid the nine days of celebration are the obvious: music, dance, family, and friends. Worship, dance, celebrate, sing, restrain or release—Navratris bring out the true blue streak in each.
The lively Dandiya event began on Sunday night amid traditions, with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar bringing the idol of Goddess Durga to the Dandiya venue amid chanting of Vedic hymns. The Dandiya event was dedicated to celebrating the strength and spirit of women.
The festival symbolises the triumph of good over evil, honouring Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura. The colourful Dandiya sticks represent the goddess’s sword in her battle against darkness.

At around 9 pm, the music began to play, and as the momentum built and the circle was set, the participants matched the rhythm with deft footwork. Soon they were lost to the brilliant beats of a heafy tradition.
The event commenced with an exhilarating garba dedicated to Goddess Durga. All the participants, including men, women, children and elderly persons, in their colourful attire joined the concentric circles, tapping to the spectacular music. The dandiya sticks in both hands clicked in unison as the skilled dancers twirled in sync with each other to make for a mind-blowing sight.
Navarathri is about the victory of positivity over negativity. People celebrate Navaratri by worshipping our goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The celebrations would be held for nine days at the temple shrine in Karimnagar town, wherein hundreds of people would participate.
