Two-Day Workshop on Income Tax Returns and GST Filing at Satavahana University

KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 06, 2026: Satavahana University Vice-Chancellor Prof U Umesh Kumar said that every citizen plays a role in nation-building through the payment of various taxes.
Participating as chief guest at the”Two-Day Practical Skill Development Workshop on Income Tax Returns and GST Filing” organised by the Department of Commerce at Satavahana University as part of the 100-day special ‘Academic Empowerment Program’ for Government Degree Colleges on Tuesday, the VC emphasised that everyone should possess a basic understanding of income tax as well as other direct and indirect taxes. He noted that paying taxes is not merely a legal obligation but a contribution toward the nation’s development. He urged commerce students, in particular, to develop practical knowledge regarding the tax system, tax laws, and the filing of tax returns.
Presiding Commerce College Principal N.V. Sriranga Prasad stated that such practical workshops are highly beneficial in fostering the ability to apply classroom learning to real-life situations. Speaking as the distinguished guest, University Registrar Prof. P. Satish Kumar explained that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has become an integral part of daily life. He noted that every family interacts with the GST system through the purchase of essential commodities, household appliances, and other products. Highlighting that taxes influence the prices of the goods we buy, he suggested that even the general public should gain awareness; such understanding fosters financial discipline and helps individuals become responsible consumers.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. K. Krishna Chaitanya, Head of the Department of Commerce at Osmania University, stated that a society without commerce is unimaginable, noting that numerous daily human activities are directly or indirectly linked to commerce. He emphasized the significance of the field of commerce by highlighting aspects such as the buying and selling of goods, banking, digital payments, investments, and business transactions. It was stated that the field of Commerce offers vast opportunities in the current era, with numerous avenues for employment and self-employment available to students in sectors such as Income Tax, GST, accounting, auditing, tax consultancy, and financial services. Students were advised that they could reach professional heights by developing practical skills alongside their theoretical knowledge.
Speaking as the guest of honor, Chartered Accountant D Niranjana Chary explained the pivotal role Chartered Accountants play in assisting individuals and business entities with filing income tax returns, GST registration, submitting returns, tax computation, and ensuring compliance with legal regulations. He provided insights into fundamental concepts such as the nature of income tax returns, eligibility for filing, and the importance of documents like income details, PAN cards, and Form-16.
D Harikanth, Workshop Convener, Head of the Department of Commerce, and OSD to VC explained that the primary objective of this two-day workshop was to provide students with practical training on the process of filing returns themselves, in addition to covering the fundamentals of Income Tax and GST. Workshop co-conveners K. Tirupati, B. Naresh, and B. Parashuramulu, along with faculty members from the Department of Commerce, research scholars, students from various colleges, university staff, and others, participated in this event.
