
KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 02, 2026: Working journalists associated with the Indian Journalist Union (IJU) Karimnagar chapter observed ‘Demands Day’ on Friday (October 2), coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary and submitted a representation to the statue of Gandhi on the premises of the Collectorate and later to Collector Chitra Mishra.
The Journalists were demanding constitution of a media commission and enactment of special national law to ensure journalists’ safety. They called for the restoration of rights previously guaranteed by law regarding job security, service conditions, wages and grievance redressal mechanisms for journalists.
They also demanded that the Centre constitute a wage board to ensure wages for the media staff that align with the current cost of living. They also urged the Telangana government to fulfil its election promise by sanctioning house sites and houses to journalists, and to provide health cards and cashless treatment, like those extended to employees.

TUWJ district president G Srinivas and general secretary K Chandrashekhar, state EC member E Ravinder, district vice presidents G Sampath and Md Shukoor, Joint Secretary D Sampath, treasurer G Venkatesh, Electronic media secretary M Ravinder, senior leader K Vijayender Reddy and others were also present.
