WARANGAL, SEPTEMBER 28, 2026: Prof. Narender Kumar, Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, stressed the need for a contemporary debate on democracy. He was delivering a guest lecture on “Dialectics of Democracy in Contemporary Times” organised by the Department of Political Science, Kakatiya University, at the Department Seminar Hall on Monday.
Prof. Kumar observed that democracy should primarily serve the interests of the people (Demos), but governments are increasingly giving importance to corporate interests. Referring to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he said India adopted political democracy without adequate foundations for social democracy. He emphasised the need for effective implementation of constitutional objectives and for constitutional institutions to function independently, free from political pressures.
Mr Gaddam Krishnaiah, Head, Department of Political Science, presided over the programme. Prof. Valluri Ramachandram, Registrar, KU, faculty members, research scholars and students attended the lecture.
