The first phase of agitation would begin on September 11 with a one-day strike
The second phase would run from September 28 to 30, and the third phase would include a continuous, indefinite strike from October 26
Banking services are likely to cripple following the strike
KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 05, 2026: Seven unions of bank employees, under the banner of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), have announced an indefinite strike from October 26, 2026, raising a four-point charter of demands, including the implementation of five-day banking, a promise made to them in 2024.
As part of these agitational programmes, the UFBU would participate in a strike on September 11 (Friday) in the first phase, crippling services for four days from September 11 to September 14 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Vinaka Chathurthi). Similarly, they would participate in a strike from September 28 to 30 for three days as a second phase of agitation, and the final agitation includes continuous, indefinite strike from October 26 if the demands are not met.
The unions’ demands include implementation of five-day banking as agreed in the Settlement/Joint Note dated 8 March, 2024, withdrawal of the government’s “unilateral and discriminatory” PLI scheme, modification of the scheme through bilateral discussions with unions, and resolution of residual issues.
