The engineering college was sanctioned by the government to be set up on the University’s own premises in Karimnagar town. But it was shifted to Husnabad town for ‘obvious’ reasons
Appointing a pharmacy lecturer as the principal of an engineering college violates structural norms, as principals must hold discipline-specific credentials in core engineering fields
But SU appoints a contract pharmacy lecturer as principal of an engineering college, which may cause potential loss in securing AICTE approval for the college
KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 29, 2026: The Satavahana University has flouted the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) norms and appointed an unqualified Pharmacy college lecturer illegally as the Principal of a newly sanctioned University of College of Engineering in Husnabad.
Under All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) guidelines, appointing a pharmacy lecturer as the principal of an engineering college violates structural norms, as principals must hold discipline-specific credentials in core engineering fields. Such non-compliant appointments expose academic institutions to regulatory penalties, potential loss of AICTE approval, and legal interventions.
It may be recalled that the Government has sanctioned an engineering college to Satavahana University to start functioning from the academic year 2026-27. Instead of setting up the engineering college on the premises of the sprawling university in Karimnagar town, it was shifted to Husnabad town for obvious reasons.
The Engineering college will have four B.Tech programmes, including CSE, CSE (Artificial Intelligence), Information Technology and Electronics and Communications Engineering. The college started with an intake of 60 students in each programme. The government sanctioned Rs 44.12 crore for the construction of the college and other expenditure in Husnabad town. The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of engineering college was also conducted recently.
The AICTE and Board of Technical Education clearly state that an engineering college principal requires a PhD and First Class or equivalent at Bachelor’s or Master’s level in the relevant technical branch. He should have guided at least two successful PhDs as a supervisor and published research papers in SCI journals/ UGC and AICTE approved lit of journals. He should have a minimum of 15 years of experience in teaching/research/ industry, out of which three years shall be at the post equivalent to that of professor.
Ironically, Tirupati Reddy, the contract lecturer working at the University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Karimnagar town, has been appointed as principal of the newly sanctioned University College of Engineering in Husnabad town, violating all norms illegally. The Satavahana University authorities said that they had appointed contract pharmacy lecturer only as in-charge principal of the engineering college.
