KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 28, 2026: Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar travelled in a TGSRTC bus from Pandilla to Husnabad and interacted with the commuters on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Friday.
On the occasion, the women commuters tied Rakhis as a symbol of respect, love and appreciation for providing free bus travel to the women passengers in RTC buses. Expressing happiness for tying the Rakhis, the Minister conveyed his Raksha Bandhan wishes, interacted with the passengers and shared their experiences of travel in RTC buses.
Appreciating the RTC bus crew for working on the festival, Mr Prabhakar said that the RTC bus crew was striving for a safe and secure journey of commuters to their destinations.
On this occasion, the Minister said that the Telangana Government had provided Rs 12,000 crore free transport services to the womenfolk under the Mahalakshmi scheme. Stating that the free bus travel for women commuters had increased the occupancy ratio, he said that they had been operating 5,000 special bus services to clear the festival rush on Raksha Bandhan.
He said that the government was providing 200 units of free power, Rs 500 LPG subsidy, new ration cards, fine rice, interest-free loans to women SHGs, Rythu Bharosa, Rythu loan waiver and other welfare schemes.
